Pillar Falls - Twin Falls, Idaho

One of our favorite things to do on a hot summer day is load up the kayaks and hit the Snake River. A great, easy paddle is to a place known as Pillar Falls in Twin Falls, Idaho. There is only one set-in location to reach Pillar Falls which is at Centennial Park in Twin Falls, located in the canyon with access off of Blue Lakes North behind Golden Corral.
The park is set up nicely with a picnic area and plenty of room to fish off the docks. Centennial is open from dawn until dusk so don't stay out too late!
If you don't own a kayak of your own, not to worry! There is a company, Pryor Paddle Rental, that have great prices for all day rentals and are conveniently located at the park, so you don't have to worry about transporting a  kayak/canoe around. Call ahead to make sure they are open and have enough boats for your group.
Pillar Falls is about 1.5 miles upstream headed towards Shoshone Falls. The great part about paddling to Pillar Falls is the awesome view of the IB Perrine Bridge from below. The IB Perrine Bridge is nationally know by adventure seeking BASE jumpers for its 500-foot drop. Not only is it an awesome site to see BASE jumpers somersault off of the side of the bridge but the sound from below of their parachute opening sounds like lightening cracking in the sky. I highly recommend hanging around in the shade of the bridge long enough to watch a few jumpers from below.
Once you are upstream about a mile you will start to doubt my instructions until you paddle around the final bend and see the enormous rock structures with rushing water all around them. There are plenty of spots on the north side of Pillar Falls to dock so you can get out and really enjoy the area. At the top of the rocks are stagnant water pools and also some pools with high currents, avoid these but look around and find a safe spot to dip your feet in! You won't regret it.
The trip back is easy because you will be going with the steam and if the sun is starting to set it really makes for an amazing view of Idaho. Check it out and let me know if you enjoyed your trip or if you have been there before!

  1. Twin Falls is the largest city of Idaho's Magic Valley region of United States. Pillar Falls are the most beautiful and attractive location over there located in Centennial Park which is great for outdoor picnic. I went there before grand canyon tour from los angeles and did boating over there. It’s not expensive at all. You may go there once in summer with your friends and family. There are many activities for enjoyment like boating, kayaking and swimming.

  2. I'm interested in packing a backpack, kayaking in, and camping near Pillar Falls. Any idea if there's anywhere to camp?
